Telugu Bidda's Katha- SS Rajamouli
Of his dozen movies which include upcoming
ones; the one i cherished watching was 'Maryada
Ramanna' of SS Rajamouli.
Why a movie which hitches back on a old
revenge subject literally made thousand times in different avatars- Samarasimha
Reddy, Pedarayudu, Naidu's, Rao's, Choudry's..............all eulogizing the
casteist feelings and regional flavor. Every top actor was part of band wagon; it’s
an inescapable truth roll your moustache and hit your thigh to show your nemesis
that you are game & Alas entire theater in Andhra erupts in rapturous applause.
Being man is one, being a Hero man yielding
a sickel and butchering your enemies is another. This was the plot in most of
Telugu Seema movies and Hero was awash with blood just into the 4th or 5 reel
of the movie. More so the camera pans into a house hold awash with women in
white Cheeras and sob drenched faces and blood curling cries instead of a
normal family setup................................
Of all the above antics which reveled the
movies goers for decades Maryada Ramanna was a welcome change
which portrays the struggle of a poor unsuspecting youth with aspirations for
future growth economically through hard work and sincerity with dark comedy the
Indian style.
The plot too is nail biting, the Indian
style- How he gets embroiled in a festering family dispute which explodes the
moment he lands in his ancestral village becomes the plot. The most endearing aspect
of the movie was its star cast which in all its ease breezed through each
sequence.
The household elder and his promise of no bloodshed
inside the house and the bubbly protagonist’s love interest character adds the
charm to the movie.
The house to begin with was traditional
structure which lent the backdrop for unfolding drama; the camera shots of a
vessel being submerged into a huge water canister to use for washing legs when
the Hero enters the home, a breezy love song on a train, a imaginary friend ‘the
cycle’ doing the last few minutes cameo and songs which testify this is a
typical Tollywood movie with no end to surprises and colours.
The movie was non-vulgar and very pleasant
to watch seema war movie. Wth minimal blood shed the movie has scored excellent
on manliness of Seema concept and lovely brownie points on blossoming love
story.
Sachin has actually given a wonderful
performance which was natural at his best as his comic sense was aptly utilized
by SS Rajamouli. His squint eye, shock me to death kind of looks during life
threatening scenes and I have made him a duffer kind of dialogues when fooling
people around him a treat to watch. Never felt a dull moment. Camera work was
amazing, be it the dance sequence to convince the Bride’s anointed husband
around the house; the cycle chase which made me wonder can a Hercules take such
a strain, and the long shots which were stressing the failures of the landlord
to hunt down the film’s protagonist, Sunil. The costumes made sense till last
scene; and title truly got me stumped.
Sunil has been a big fan of Chiranjeevi
which gets further branded with his typical Megastar moves. Sunil has matured into a good actor and all
others add flavors to the dish to make it a super viewing experience. It also
shows would be blood thirsty Seema movies how one can make a movie with minimal
loss to life. In all 2 were killed in this movie. What a count.
Looking forward to SS Rajamouli's Eega movie.......................................
