New dawn of Tamil cinema


I am just excited as I was 20 years ago when I eagerly awaited few actors and directors and musicians releases per se their movies, today.

The reason for this excitement lies in new age actors like Nayanthara, Dhanush, Vijay Sethupathy, Bobby Simha, Jeeva, Vishnu, Vikram, Suriya, Karthi, Dinesh, Vimal, Prithviraj, Siddharth, Thambi Ramaiah, Bhaskar, Jayaprakash, Soori, Sasikumar, Arulnidhi, Sibiraj .....

All above actors have dared to try different things especially Vikram putting his career on line with some stunning portrayals with little regard to Mass movie appeal, yet they do fall back to honeytrap of mass entertainers............................

New age actors are more in comfort zone to experiment without any kind of image issues or fans expectation. Especially Vijay Sethupathi, Siddharth, Dinesh, Arulnidhi are few such talented actors giving a interesting fare to audience. None of their movies carry much expectation until one steps into the screen. Now one should not deprive the brain enabling these actors to fare so well- the script and Director.

The script and direction has pushed them to a level where they should perform to excel and NO looking back. This creative team has given birth to fresh music high on melody and experimentation. This combination is driving a brand new era of movie making in tamil, which I am just to eager to lap in. Now to back this team is a versatile character actors taking offbeat roles with ease.

But yes they are setting a trend of expectation, a kind of delivery pangs to expectant mother in this case audience. Certainly adrenaline rush is getting back to me after 20 years.

20 years ago atleast to my knowledge I looked forward to Rajni's movie just for his style, music was secondary, then I looked for family Melodrama entertainers like Visu, Udhayakumar, PVasu, Bhagyaraj, Manirathnam, Balachander, Selvamani, Santhanabharathi, Mouli, Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, Bharathiraja, KSRavikumar, SureshKrishna,................as time went by my ideas matured and I began to appreciate the beauty behind a creation be it the camera work of Roja, Ilayaraja's scintillating BGM in Anjali and Thalapathi, stunning encounter of Deva and Surya in Thalapathi from cameraman's view, clash of Prabhu and Karthik in Agninachatiram, The romance of karthik, the comic relief provided by Goundamani and Senthil, The Kamal's creative genius in many Characters he had given life to, the spectacular backgrounds to back the scene like Thevar Magan, Guna, Punnagai manan and much more...............................................

Actors to WATCHOUT- these actors have so far treaded a path which past actors took in their mid career, hence the chances of their movies going dud is HIGH. That does not stop them from experimenting with good scripts. Its said that what you show makes what your audience is, if you begin to make movies like Pasanga, Cuckoo, Maya, Demonte Colony, kakka Mutai, Visaranai, etc- audience choice can well be redefined. When we belt out movies with half a dozen songs with actresses costume bursting at seams and people struggling to find any realism in these scripts makes for a poor appetite. But when we add more substance and realism to script people are seeing themselves in those roles and are happy to find their voice in larger screen.

Siddharth and Vijay Sethupathi can be expected to win National honours soon, while Dinesh and Arulnidhi need to through punishing lathe's of Ironsmith to sharpen their acting prowess but nevertheless very Talented.


Look out for exciting movies in upcoming months and you are never to be let down. I bet BIG on tamil films.

Wondering how fortunate; I am witnessing a reinvention of Tamil cinema from a monotonous artificial storyline to real life easily relatable characters and situations and idea of life is REAL and NOT REEL.

Can i please use the loo plzzzzzzzzzzzzz veri urgent.....................how many might muster courage in asking our guests or even places we visit when in need. Most do now. Tryst with Western Ghats- Karnataka Story

Western ghats are the lifeline for Monsoons, bringing rain to water starved plains, feeding many wild forest reserves, agriculture, plantations and rural and urban settlements. This year(2018) we chose Madikeri to spend close to nature and avoid going to coffee plantations and artificially infused wildlife surrounding the plantations. yet we still could not avoid the coffee plantations for want of good private space to spend quality time. we chose a location close to nature and it was located a good distance away from the bustling town hence the need to wait patiently for transport to ferry us to the location. the steep slopes and typical hill houses added charm to the location. the place we were staying was called Kabbinakad. This story is meant to talk through images which we captured throughout our journey. Jil Jung Juk- 3J's to good entertainer

Wow i am at last feeling comfortable watching Siddharth's acting. What do you mean, he's the darling of many lovely damsels, young oozing females of Indian ethos, and envy of many a talented actors-male. Siddharth's stereotype kind of angry frustrated looks of Boyz/ Bommarillu/ to other movies has made me feel move away from this talent hotbed's exploits. The KaviyaThalaivan/ Jigarthanda has pulled me back to sit up and see his metamorphosis. Sure its bit hard on a actor with prodigious talent and out of box thinking in an industry hell bent on formulaic offerings. The carefree attitude to try new things seems to synchronize with the Tamil movie audience too.
