CSS Meeting- 23rd August 2009

Venue- Independence Day Park, Time- 4.00pm
Highlights-
  • Lata and Bala had attended Tulir's special workshop on Monday and Tuesday- 17th and 18th August 2009. more than 25 NGO's from different parts of amilnadu participated.
  • Highlights were difficulty for abused victims to get timely judicial help due to lacking of certain legal provisions protecting children
  • the inadequate representation of children in legal fora against crimes
  • the penalty imposed is paltry
  • procedures to help te victim- like registering an FIR and also identifying oneself as Against Child Abuse volunteer so that law enforcement agency is more receptive to our approach
  • respect the victims feelings and not to urge to narrate the incident often and proper care; during interrogation the victim is accompanied by an adult and always videographed for documentation
  • Child toll free helpline number is 1098
  • Joy of giving beginning from 27th to 3rd October wheren Tulir would be interested to conduct a silent rally on Child abuse prevention. Tentative date confirmed is 2nd October. Tulir will do the basic ground work like rally location and placard designs.

2. National Sports day for Disabled students- VScribe event

  • August 30th is the day of the event at CP Arts Centre, Alwarpet at 9.30am
  • The competition will be held for Carom and Chess events for hearing impaired children on knockout basis
  • two schools have confirmed; 20 to 30 students.
  • there will be two winners in each game and paricipation certificate to participants
  • there will be 3 sports arbitors and 1 interpretor for children

3. Madars School of Social Work Presentation

  • The presentation was part of CSS commitment to address the bachelors course students on various CSS projects and their willingness to collaborate with our activities
  • Murali, Venkat, Dr. Ashwin, Sangeetha and Satish were present on the day of presentation.
  • nearly 50 students were present for the presentation; interested students will forward their details for any assignment

4. Gramudharan

  • Lata, Murali and Dr. Ashwin visited the vayalur village and briefed them on various SHG opportunities accompanied by Mrs. Gomathi, a SHG head.
  • Swaminathan, Jagdish, Murali, Ranga, Anish were present at Meenambal slum to interact with children and also to get to know their needs on 20th August at 4.30pm. we had a free wheeling discussion from Murali and also we were joined by Julian's CRY team.
  • few things which were agreed upon at Meenmbal slum are- a.) Pre-employment training camp
  • b.) identify VIII dropouts and enrol them into schools
  • c.) Medical camp
  • d.) Tuition center for children
  • e.) Street play

5. ECG- SMS-a-SAPLING

  • there are now designated volunteers in various zones who would cater to those regions requirement for sapling
  • we have distributed 1000 saplings to volunteers; planted more than 500 saplings at various places in the city
  • Most IT companies have taken to task for helping us out with SMS-a-SAPLING initiative

we had two freinds from 'SWARG' an organisation primarily looking into educational needs of the village or slum children hailing from poor backgrounds. They are a bunch of software professionals who joined hands in helping spread education.
