2018 holds promise for Thamizhlan

It's been a tumultuous year minus nature's fury except for missing fishermen of Kanyakumari district due to Cyclone Ockhi. the exception meant destruction caused on land.

Cyclone Ockhi was ferocious enough to scare a humble fishermen but the lackadaisical authorities continue to play truant on the issue.

i am more concerned about Tamilnadu than rest of India, because Tamilnadu and few other Non Hindi speaking states are thrown a challenge called Saffronisation. Until now i am still not convinced how much this saffron party's surge will affect our daily life including the fabric of society.

Yes sporadic disturbing incidents occurred across BJP ruled states which is hard to explain, given their brute majority in most states they oath to maintain law and order with utmost sincerity yet they continue to go behind non hindus in name of cow, movies, customs, and way of life.

Now back to Tamilnadu, with end of Jayalalitha and near curtains down on Karunanidhi, Tamilnadu politics is in flux. the time is ripe for new formations from civil society to take forward from the cities as rural centres are still driven along red, white and black stripes.

the experiment which began during last Assembly elections can see light this time around. i have been a person who would try new alternatives to present day thieves. Yet transparency eludes even sane party.

Chennai city is dynamic and needs a representative who could juggle with issues without disturbing the socioeconomic considerations of the electorate.

Chennai city has a general apathy on rising against social issues if not provoked by NGO's working on their behalf. Given that we can begin to identify organisations working for betterment of Government services and those working to provide relief to common man suffering from administrative apathy.

In this process of identifying correct person to lead the administration; irritants do play their part like Kamal Hasan or Rajnikanth. None of these people can sum up courage to question current dispensation including opposition for the state of affairs of Tamilnadu. This state has been ruined by selfish political motives which served interests of the 2 parties ruling Tamilnadu.

The trend is one enter politics to save his or her skin or hide. Jallikattu agitation was commendable which could have ended on a more positive note, but right noises were made and raised. But beyond a sport these voices MUST rise for more important issues which plague the State of Tamilnadu.

Most are aware of these issues yet we sit mum for multitude of reasons. Plundering river sand and minerals across the coast, flowing liquor, destroyed families due to liquor scourge, prevailing caste issues in south districts, increasing cases of land abuse by polluting industries, neglect on support for sustainable farming, mindless urbanisation killing natural wealth like lakes, ponds and reservoirs, dysfunctional panchayat system and power being centralised in hands of party functionaries, support for hazardous industries at cost of human health and environment, neglect of heritage value cultural structures across the state, need to preserve, declining standard of government support to schools, much more.

Tamilnadu is still one of few amongst the 29 states in India which boast of good road connectivity across the state, better rail amenities and infrastructure, better care to its womenfolk, better electricity situation across villages if not 24/7, responsive Govt. mechanism yet we are still smug presuming our standrads as comparable to European or American state of affairs. we are no way near their benchmark of quality in governance and way of life.

Tamilnadu has reached a point where one should realise that saying Anna, Amma or MGR or even Kamaraj will not make things happen, if we need to compete at highest level to improve and increase the quality of life we should adopt a path of virtues which eludes most now a days.

Corruption or Bribe are a norm which is curse on us because we are one of most corrupt than less developed States in India. Let's shed our pseudo dravidian garb which was never put to use in last 40 years except during founding years of Periyar's agitation, but put on our pride as Pachaa Thamizhlan in India who can be different and also successful.

To say Thamizhlan one does not need to have a separate Identity in Indian constitution but as part of our Thai Naadu Bharatham we shall be a Nala Thamizhlan nurturing ourselves and propelling India forward. We have propelled India in many fields and identity of ours be it carnataka isai, Bharatnaatyam, Tanjore paintings, Jallikattu, Kabaadi, Pongal Thirunaal, Kangeyam-Umalacherry-other native breeds, Traditional rice varieties, Kancheepuram pattu,  our civilisations span minimum 2000 years, what not and lot more.............we bring a large fare to the Table called India. we have our rightful place in History of freedom struggle too from Nachiyaar, Marudhu veerargal, Veerapandiyan Kattabomman, Kodi kaathaKumaran, VOC, Bharathiyar, similarly nation building too. We are no less patriots to others but we are all people of same country.

We look around ourselves to see India than Tamilnadu given the huge number of livelihood seeking enterprising communities making this their home. Our present condition has come to such a state that farm labour come from Bihar or Jharkhand or West Bengal. yet we welcome them knowing work goes on and anyone who works hard is respected. Let's stop calling ourselves Tamil only and say anyone accepting our culture and beliefs is welcome to coexist in harmony.

Today's complex Saffron politics poses a dangerous threat and yet a golden opportunity to cement our position. Its regional identity which must propel Tamilnadu ahead and not mainstream parties. Given a different mix of people amongst us it's become a threat that different background people begin to support national causes than regional issues. This problem can be remedied only when we have a GOOD able LEADER at regional level who governs keeping people's issues in mind. this can keep national centric parties from bay and in process we do not LOSE our interests especially Neutrino project- ONGC shale gas projects- GAIL gas pipeline project-Kudankulam Project-polluting leather and textile industries and other projects which bypass state concerns.

Mainstream parties appeal to majoritarian sensibilities like Mann Ki Baat- how does Mann Ki Baat make me take notice. India is diverse and we must cherish it: not enforce a majoritarian view as proposed by present day central Government.

Modi's Government must take a step back and understand that Jallikattu or NEET had its most vocal opposition from Tamilnadu, only later did Karnataka put forward its interests in Bullock cart races. Tamilnadu will retain its identity and Modi's Government ought to respect it. As a responsible centre they must make way for new ideas to germinate rather than throw a dash of saffron and misguide the electorate.

My observations are meant to make us stronger together than get split on caste religion and community lines. Tamilnadu had a history of peaceful existence of all faiths until we had to begin to identify ourselves on those lines now. Lets stitch a strong Tamilnadu for a stronger India and thwart all efforts of few parties to dissect us and run for identity and be cheated of our own cause.

I say proudly now that i have a good christian as my business partner, a good muslim my health enquirer, a good sikh who guards my country, a good parsi we share our house around and a good Indian I am living as a Tamizhlan.
