Bhadrakali- Slaying Asura

I stumbled upon this Mythical Goddess in the Tamil movie of Sri A C Tirulokchander made in 1976 on one late afternoon on a Tamil movie channel.

The movie made in late 70's portrayed the protagonist in a state of affairs where she is branded psychotic but a stroke of luck eventually leads to the death of a flesh hungry villain and she becoming a Goddess; the plot thickened around the protagonist very well with one particular dialogue mentioning, 'there is Bhadrakali in every woman'. Then i wondered why not remind hapless coy women who have sought equal rights in all spheres of life except in bashing a flesh hungry man yielding a weapon of her choice.

Bhadrakali has many associations as a divine incarnate to rid the world of Asuras. She is considered the daughter of Lord Shiva. But why have woman not risen like this blood thirsty goddess in times of extreme danger. I do not mean cinematic unreasonable instances but at least ways by which one can self protect. In times of no help one should emulate the 'SHAKTI'.

The timing was appropriate with Delhi in flames with unprovoked protesters swarming the seat of power.

That same afternoon, which happens to be 28th December 2012; Headlines Today afternoon news bulletin carried news of 'RAPE' all across India from Tamilnadu to West Bengal to Punjab to Kerala to Assam................for a moment i wondered whether there could be any truth in simultaneous broadcast of so many incidents. But a moment's thinking reflects a larger Malaise affecting the Indian psyche especially male in today's world.

Even after a Brave demise of the fighting soul; CNNIBN on 31st December 2012 in its afternoon news dedicated 10 minutes to various rape cases being reported across India- just wondering even after so much blood being flown hunger for flesh has not subsided for these demons?

Perverted- Loner- failure in life- scolded by teacher- reprimanded by father for stealing money- Hero created out of Woods (comprising Bollywood-Tollywood-Kollywood-Mollywood- Sandalwood)- systemic characteristics present in a abuser. This was further substantiated by TOI Editor Swaminathan Aiyer in his article dated 30th December 2012- 'Films sanctify pestering and stalking of woman'.

Artistic expression on one side; show how a woman can fight back stalking road side romeos in a plot. Yes today's love is at expense of no job, Time pass for Hero before he takes on the goons, aimless wandering, social symbol as portrayed in movie 'Marina' and much more. But 'Marina' might have created a character to showcase how a mis-fired youth would construe love as a social symbol among his 'Paired' friends; the question is how mature is today's youth is taking the message in right sense?

A 15 yr old indulges in this crime! what would have driven him?- the society we live in or the Boy's genes?- the answer lies among us, India land of oldest civilizations/ Land of thousand gods/ Land of fear of almighty/ Land of culture and Land of restraint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

India is waking up to the 21st Century's disease afflicting mono-culture (Consumerism) US and western countries. How are we to face the challenges, one among them being SEX. How well equipped are we?

We will have to slay the monster and stem the denuding Indian cultural ethos.

First Step Taken- The unprovoked public anger has pleased Swami Vivekananda as he would have embraced men and women participating in non-violent protest against injustice but what next?

Jai Hind.

Continuing............................2nd January 2013

A good friend of mine, Mr. R. Ramasamy  had raised this issue on Women's fallibility in tackling ogling eyes and brazing male bodies.

More so enlightening is the article which talks about a Woman Goddess in a virulent form, 'KALI' which one wonders why not used against men indulging in misdemeanor.
